INTRAC is looking for a dynamic individual to manage our training services and other forms of supporting the professional and personal development of individuals working in and for civil society. As Training Manager you will be responsible for the strategic development and delivery of INTRAC’s training services portfolio, working closely with INTRAC’s staff and network of associates. You will manage INTRAC’s global tailor-made training work, including both long-term and short term assignments, and its UK-based face to face and online courses open to anyone. You will be expected to manage and develop strong relationships with clients from all types of civil society organisations (CSOs), from grassroots and activist organisations to large international level NGOs, as well as bi- and multilateral donors and foundations, to develop and deliver tailor-made solutions.

INTRAC’s new organisational strategy emphasises the importance of sustainability of capacity building. In line with this INTRAC’s training portfolio is increasingly shifting its tailor-made work towards long-term programmatic support for civil society organisations, as well as its shorter term work.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have strong experience of designing and delivering training and capacity building initiatives for civil society organisations, preferably with some overseas experience. S/he will be passionate about supporting the professional and personal development of individuals in the field of international development. S/he will be a team player, keen to work with us to develop innovative ways of further developing and expanding our training offer to provide a range of high quality, relevant, cost-effective training services to civil society globally.

Main Responsibilities

OVERALL MANAGEMENT OF INTRAC’S TRAINING PROGRAMME INCLUDING TAILOR-MADE TRAINING, FACE TO FACE TRAINING AND ONLINE TRAINING, AND OTHER EMERGING SERVICE AREAS

o Line manage a team of three staff; the Training Coordinator, the Training Officer and the Project Coordinator (Nama Foundation – Consultants for Change),

o Manage specific tailor made training jobs as requested by clients, ranging from short-term training workshops to longer-term training, facilitation and consultancy.

o Act as Project Leader for the Consultancies for Change (Nama Foundation) project, leading and directing the project design, recruitment process, materials design and other tasks in collaboration with the Project Coordinator and wider team.

o Manage and collaborate with INTRAC staff and trainers for efficient and high quality delivery to budget and high standards, including negotiation of terms of reference and contracts, needs assessment, and quality assurance.

o Manage trainers’ involvement with INTRAC’s training programme, including identification and selection of trainers and support in course design and delivery,

o Design and development of innovative training approaches and content in consultation with team, staff, trainers and associates.

o Overall management of the quality assurance of the programme, including design of the training, observations with feedback, analysis of participant’s feedback and sharing of learning, innovation and good practice across the trainer pool.

o Contribute to effective learning across the programme and across INTRAC’s services and ensure that learning from consultancies, programmes, research, conferences and other INTRAC activities are reflected in training content.

Strategic development of intrac training services and programmes globally

o Development and implementation of a strategy, operational plans and budgets for INTRAC’s training services in line with INTRAC’s overall strategic framework.

o Strategic development of the training and capacity building portfolio through proactive and innovative approaches including long-term projects for civil society at individual and organisational levels and relationship building.

o Support the development of INTRAC’s thematic and/or regional training offer by working closely with other teams and staff, for example the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) team, to develop strategic relationships with relevant training service providers/other stakeholders and to identify and deliver innovative training services.

o Identify and expand opportunities for use of innovative technology in INTRAC’s training programmes and services such as webinars, coaching via skype and e-learning platforms and modules.

o Identify and support the development of new training course subjects or services.

MARKETING AND FUNDRAISING FOR ALL TRAINING RELATED SERVICES INCLUDING TAILOR-MADE TRAINING OFFERS, ONLINE AND FACE TO FACE TRAINING AND NEW INITIATIVES.

o Develop and implement a marketing plan for training (within a broader INTRAC marketing strategy) in collaboration with the training team and communications staff.

o Explore opportunities and secure funding for training services.

o Contribute to the effective communication and marketing of INTRAC overall through training programmes.

REPRESENTING INTRAC EXTERNALLY FOR TRAINING RELATED ACTIVITIES AND CERTIFICATIONS

o Proactively build relationships and strategic partnerships with other training providers, donors and our client base.

o Represent INTRAC in the Training Providers Forum and other relevant networks and external events.

o Maintain an overview of internationally relevant standards in the training market and ensure INTRAC’s engagement with these and where required successful certification or accreditation.

INTERNAL MANAGEMENT

o Contribute to INTRAC’s overall management in line with its strategy,

o Compile and provide data, oral and written reports for management purposes including for senior management, the Executive Director, Board, Annual Report, financial reporting, and others required.

o Develop, monitor, and report on annual and project budgets in the field of training in collaboration with finance staff, and authorise related expenditure.

o Adhere to INTRAC’s internal information and management systems and policies (e.g. timesheets, financial reporting).

o Contribute to organisation-wide initiatives and participate in organisation-wide activities.

OTHER DUTIES

o Execute other reasonable tasks requested by your line manager or the Executive Director.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

o Significant experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of training in support of organisations and individuals. Experience with international civil society organisations including in development and humanitarian contexts or human rights, social justice and environmental advocacy will be an advantage.

o Experience of strategically developing a portfolio of work, including developing projects and proposals and securing funding for these in the field of training and individual capacity building.

o Experience in managing projects, budgets and multi-stakeholder work processes, including the use of project management and financial analysis tools.

o Experience of line managing staff and team building.

o Demonstrated strong communication skills with sensitivity to cultural and organisational differences and gender issues.

o Masters level qualification in a relevant discipline including but not limited to international development, training or education, cross cultural learning and management. Commitment to INTRAC’s values, vision and mission.

SKILLS

o Strategic and entrepreneurial skills to support the positioning of the organisation and the further development of existing and new lines of work.

o Excellent organisational skills and ability to multi task and work to deadlines

o Proven strengths in facilitating collaboration and collaborative ways of working both as part of an internal team and with external stakeholders/partners.

o Cross-cultural sensitivity.

o Self-awareness, adaptability and flexibility. Fluent English and an ability to write clearly and concisely for different audiences including academics and practitioners. In addition, a good working knowledge of another language key to INTRAC’s wider work such as Arabic, Russian, French, Spanish or Portuguese is an asset.
